Terschelling

Island Hopping and cycling with the Aaltje Engelina along the Frisian Wadden Islands

A bike is waiting for you in several marinas. After sailing you have plenty of opportunity to discover the islands, towns and countryside and to enjoy the special atmosphere.

Saturday

On Saturday you are welcome on board from 14.00 o'clock. During the afternoon we sail from Leeuwarden, through the Harinxma canal, to Harlingen. During this 3.5-hour trip you can meet the other passengers and enjoy the Frisian landscape in a relaxed atmosphere. Harlingen, with its historic ports and cosy city centre, is perfect as our resting place before we start out adventure towards Terschelling.

Sunday

On Sunday we leave Harlingen around 13.00 o'clock and depending on wind and weather we sail towards Vlieland. We arrive there during the late afternoon.

Sailing on Waddensea

Monday

After breakfast we leave, in consultation with each other, either early to Terschelling to then have a lot of time to explore this beautiful island, or late to enjoy some more Vlieland. The distance to Terschelling is short so we can afford this luxury we arrive round 13.00 h. The bikes are waiting for you in the harbour to make a nice trip on this island.

Tuesday

We leave Terschelling early (11.00 h) in the direction of Ameland. The tides are favourable this day and if the weather conditions are as well. Then we to go to Ameland.

Wednesday

Early the morning (6.00 h) we will already be sailing over the shallows of the Eastwaddensea and fall dry on a sandbank round about 9.30 h and we reach the port of Schiermonnikoog in the afternoon. This tidal port is affected by low tide so that the AALTJE ENGELINA is completely out of the water.

Thursday

During the afternoon at 16.00 h we will leave Schiermonnikoog in the direction of Zoutkamp. Maybe we stop at Lauwersoog to eat together (buy) some fresh baked fish. We will go through the Lauwersmeer where we, if the wind is favourable to us, we can still enjoy sailing and we reach Zoutkamp at +/- 20.00 h..

Friday

We will leave Zoutkamp at 11.00 h. Through the "Dokkumer groot diep" we arrive late in the afternoon (17.00 h) in the old seaport and admiralty city Dokkum. This is really a beautiful city to stroll along the old strongholds or to explore the old and cosy city centre.

Falling dry

Saturday

Sailing through the Dokkumer Ee we will pass Bartlehiem, known from the eleven-city tour, and through the old town of Leeuwarden. In the city of Leeuwarden we will have a pit stop 16.00 - 18.00 h Furthermore, sailing through the Dokkumer Ee we will pass many bridges, villages and old farms. In short on this last day there is still much to see and experience, round about 20.00 h we are back in our harbour. Today we have to say our goodbye’s and look back on a special, versatile and sportive tour. Perhaps your circle of friends has even become a bit bigger during this holiday ...

After last breakfast together we have to say our goodbye’s and look back on a special, versatile and sportive tour. Perhaps your circle of friends has even become a bit bigger during this holiday ...

Greta and Sytze will surprise you with delicious breakfast, lunch and snacks. We are also happy with your help in the galley.
During sailing you can help to hoist the sails? Help with the ropes, stand at the steering wheel. Or you can relax on deck or in the spacious lounge, read a book or play games. During this tour there is plenty of opportunity to meet your fellow travellers.

About the Crew

Sytze has gained a lot of experience in the water sport industry. Sytze was captain / owner for 12 years of the sailing charter ship "Zeemeeuw" and was for 13 years together with his wife Greta owner of YachtCharter Sneek, a rental company with almost 30 motor yachts in her fleet. In addition to that, he was the owner of a flat-bottom or "Platbodem" rental company under the name Charter Friesland with a fleet of almost 20 sailing flat-bottomed yachts. This company was sold in 2017.
The AALTJE ENGELINA is the project that Sytze has been working on for over 10 years and from season 2016 onwards, as a host / captain. Together with Greta, he can share his passion with his guests on this beautiful sailing ship.

Travel information: Wadden Islands sailing excursion

• Sailing area: North Frisian canals and the Wadden Islands: Vlieland, Terschelling Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.
• Departure port Leeuwarden
• Sailing ship "AALTJE ENGELINA"
• Boarding: Friday the 05th of July. You are welcome on board from 2 pm onwards
• Disembarkation: Friday 12th of July at 9 am your sailing trip ends.
• Activities: sailing, steering, navigating and exploring the surroundings.
• Target group: all ages
• Minimum participation 4, maximum participation 12 people

Food and beverages

Meals are provided for you on a half-board basis. We ask our guests to lend a hand with chores like covering/clearing the table and washing dishes.
• Breakfast
Breakfast consists of different kinds of breads with cold meats, cheese and sweet spreads, coffee, tea and milk.
• Lunch
The lunch is equal to the breakfast supplemented with something extra such as soup or salad. Fruit is present on board. In between, something tasty is regularly provided, such as cookies or snacks.
• Dinner
In the evening you can choose from various restaurants on the islands, which we will visit on this trip.
If we choose to spend a night on the mudflats, a plan will be made together
• Beverages
Beverages are for sale on board of the ship. However, you can also bring it yourself. On board of the ship there will always be wine, beer and various soft drinks available.

• Surcharge fees for the port, tourist tax, fuel costs.

• Coffee, tea and water are available free of charge.

Arrival, parking car:

You can get to the ship by car or bus. After unloading, there is the possibility to park your car at the port of Watersport Twee Provinciën for free.

Food and beverages

During this trip, the captain provides all meals on a half board basis (breakfast, lunch). The meals are included in the prices. You can buy beverages on board of the ship which you will pay at the end of the trip. It is also possible to bring your own beverages.

Bicycles

Bike rental is included in the price, however, for an e-bike there will be a surcharge.

Payment and cancellation policy

In the event of any illness or hindrance on your part, the travel sum or part of the travel sum will remain due.

Cancellation policy:

Up to 2 months before date 50%, 2 to 1 month 75%, 1 month up to 1 day before start 90%. You can take out cancellation insurance for this risk. Should we, for reasons of foreclosure or illness on our part or in case of insufficient participation, proceed with the cancellation of the cruise, then the already paid amount will be refunded to you.
